International Rafting Federation Guide Assessment

All the guides at Mango Tree Resort getting certified for Grade IV/V Guide/Trip Leader

www.internationalrafting.com/Maila and a few of our other staff are currently on the Marsyandi River getting their International Rafting Federation (IRF) Trip Guide and Leader for Grade IV/V River  and assessment. Followed by some of our junior staff getting their Grade III qualification. This is one of the highest qualifications a rafting guide can get and is essential for them keeping up to date with the international industry standards.

The IRF is an important body in the rafting community and strives to maintain and promote international standards of rafting and safety across the globe both commercially and recreationally.  When we heard that Mark Hirst, an exceptional guide himself was running a course in December we jumped at the chance to get some of our guides on it.

There are no laws in Nepal stipulating which qualifications Nepali Rafting Guides need to get, some don't have any! But we like to keep all our guides qualifications up to date and current  by getting them to do a variety of different courses.

Big thanks to Mark for running the course and congratulations to our own Lama and Maila getting awarded their Grade V Trip Leader! Only 4 from the whole course got it so it's a great achievement for them.

WRT Resce 3 International & First Aid Training

We recently took a week out from running trips in Nepal to get all our staff's safety qualifications updated. Although we give ongoing training throughout the year, it is important for our staff to gain internationally recognised qualifications so that they are eligible to work overseas and of course increase their knowledge on the latest safety techniques.

Our good friend, Anthony Eddis-Davis from the Outdoor Instructor Training Academy in the UK, ran the Rescue 3 International Whitewater Rescue Technician course with First Aid in March for all our staff. It was great to refresh all our memories, learn a few new techniques - and some of the scenrio's were great fun!

There are currently no laws in Nepal stating that rafting companies have to have safety training, or in fact any training! Scary, but true. We hope that by setting a good example, the industry will soon make it compulsory to have WRT training. We believe you cannot put a cost on safety.

Thanks again to Ant for running such a great course.
